Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon has approved state matching funds for a major nuclear energy project in Gillette, clearing the way for BWXT to build a TRISO fuel fabrication plant aimed at supporting the next generation of advanced nuclear reactors.

The project, which is backed by the Wyoming Energy Authority, represents a significant step in Wyoming’s effort to diversify its energy economy while reinforcing national energy security. TRISO fuel, a specialized form of nuclear fuel designed by advanced reactors, is seen by federal and state officials as critical to reducing the nation’s reliance on foreign-controlled portions of the nuclear fuel cycle.
