Powder River Energy Corporation (PRECorp) is a non-profit energy provider serving all or parts of Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan, and Weston counties in northeast Wyoming. PRECorp services over 12,000 members with reliable, affordable energy while also serving as a versatile community partner, fostering economic development across the region.

Powder River Energy Corporation (PRECorp) serves the energy needs of five northeastern Wyoming counties, providing electricity distribution and related services to its members. But PRECorp, as a “by-the-people, for-the-people” electric cooperative, also undertakes a deeper role, working to spur business growth and improve regional quality of life while maintaining close ties to its communities.

Economic Development

PRECorp bolsters economic development in northeast Wyoming through a variety of initiatives, including supporting existing businesses, attracting new ones, fostering job creation, and enhancing the region’s quality of life. PRECorp collaborates closely with a wealth of local and state partners to achieve sustainable success.

Wyoming has been named the nation’s “most business-friendly tax climate” by the Tax Foundation for five years in a row, receiving consistently high grades for state management. Additionally, the state possesses connections to domestic and international markets and a skilled workforce ready to power businesses. A high quality of life, welcoming communities and top-ranked schools make Wyoming a unique place for businesses to attract talent.

PRECorp invests in the future of northeast Wyoming by funding and supporting a wide array of scholarships and educational opportunities in the region. For example, the PRECorp Scholarship will award $2,000 to 19 students in its service territory, while the R.O.S.S. (Rising Opportunity Student Scholarship) offers $2,000 awards to students entering tuition-based training, certification, and degree programs.

Area 59 Center for Innovation and Fabrication, located in Gillette, is a “maker space” where people with shared interests, especially in computing and technology, can gather to work on projects and share ideas, equipment, and knowledge. Area 59 empowers learners of all ages to develop critical thinking and technical skills via access to hands-on opportunities, mentorship and cutting-edge tools.

PRECorp’s partners include the Wyoming Business Council, Wyoming Energy Authority, Wyoming Grown, Wyoming Office of Tourism, Endow Wyoming, Wyoming Department of Workforce Services and many more. By maintaining strong relationships with local and state partners, PRECorp powers economic growth and helps meet present and future business needs in the region.
