WYDOT PREPARING STRATEGY FOR ~$24M IN FEDERAL FUNDS TO BUILD OUT WYOMING’S ELECTRIC VEHICLE INFRASTRUCTURE

CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) said Tuesday that it expects to receive $23.96 million over the next five years to support the development of electric vehicle infrastructure in the state.

The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) federal funding comes out of the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), that President Joe Biden signed into law in November 2021, according to WYDOT. WYDOT will receive about $3.9 million in 2022 and $5 million per year from 2023 through 2026.

In addition to the NEVI funding, WYDOT says that Wyoming has Volkswagen settlement funds that will be used to provide funding for electric vehicle infrastructure in areas that are not along “alternative fuel corridors” under the NEVI program. There is also $2.5 billion in grant funding available to state and local governments as well as special purpose districts, tribes and other entities through the BIL.
