During August, Food Bank of Wyoming is partnering with Powder River Energy Foundation and CoBank to provide 160,000 meals. The campaign comes at a crucial time, as food insecurity is still prevalent across our state. Powder River Energy Foundation and CoBank have banded together to match donations to Food Bank of Wyoming up to $20,000; doubling the dollar amount of each donation. The double donation campaign runs through August 31 and is a perfect opportunity for anyone looking to increase the impact of their donation.

“If it weren’t for the Wyomingites like those at Powder River Energy Foundation and CoBank stepping up and helping, we would not have been able to respond to the needs of the past year,” shared Tony O. Woodell, Director of Food Bank of Wyoming. “We’re so grateful. It is only because of strong community support and relationships that we were able to provide nearly ten million meals.”

How it works:

  • Food Bank of Wyoming equates each dollar given to four meals in the community. But through the current campaign, each dollar now goes further, providing eight meals for people facing hunger.
  • Food Bank of Wyoming is able to do this by utilizing a combination of donated food from local and national food sources, as well as the ability to purchase food at lower prices by buying high quantities.

Working alongside nearly 200 volunteers, Food Bank of Wyoming’s 25 employees have the capacity to safely handle, store, and transport large quantities of food to their Wyoming network of partners. The organization relies on the community to help build the framework to make a change. This is why the double donation campaign is important. Just last year, production and distribution reports show Food Bank of Wyoming distributed the most food in the organization’s history.

“Food Bank of Wyoming focuses our expertise on acquiring and distributing food so our partners can provide direct client services and distribute food to people facing hunger in their local communities,” says Woodell. “The end goal is more people are provided wider access to nutrition.”

Food Bank of Wyoming is a statewide food network that serves all 23 counties working with160 local hunger-relief partners. Answering the challenge of hunger means meeting today’s needs while developing strategies to address longer-term difficulties. It means striking a balance between large-scale capabilities and local connections. “Ultimately, Food Bank of Wyoming is all about providing food to people in need, and the impact of that—whether you look at regional statistics or into the eyes of a thankful family—is immeasurable."
