Wright, Wy: Where Small-town Life Mixes with Big Energy Advantages

The City of Wright, located just to the south of Gillette in Campbell County, Wyoming, is a safe, family-oriented community that values its small-town atmosphere, strong energy-based economy and quality education system.

From the original pioneer ranchers in the 1880’s to the booming coal mine days in the 1970’s, Wright has a fantastic story to tell. Wright’s Centennial Museum offers an excellent opportunity to view the area's history from the early pioneer days to the current impacts of the energy industry.

Wright has a little of everything commonly found in Wyoming. One of the largest privately-owned buffalo herds in the country can be viewed with tours at the nearby Durham Buffalo Ranch. The Southern Campbell County Agricultural Complex is a state-of-the-art Indoor and Outdoor Event Arena. And June’s Wright Days offers the familiar small-town fair experience for all ages.

The most sought-after careers in the area are within the natural resource and energy industries. Two of North America’s largest open pit coal mines, Black Thunder Mine and North Antelope Rochelle Mine, are in the area and are large employers. Oil and gas field operations also offer ample employment options.

The energy industry emphasis has resulted in a generational workforce with an extensive experience background. Their expertise can be directly applied to other manufacturing businesses as well.
