Johnson County

Johnson County is a place of legend. It’s an area of sheep herders and cattle barons, renegades and rustlers. It’s a place where visitors can enjoy both the beauty of the Bighorn Mountain wilderness and the history of the western frontier. It’s an area where you will find an abundance of wildlife and an endless variety of outdoor experiences. It is home to nearly 9,000 residents and 667 businesses, which employ more than 4,000 people. Owen Wister wrote about the Johnson County Cattle War in his epic American novel The Virginian.
