Many people have heard of Sundance, thanks to Robert Redford’s iconic role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. But the city is much more than that. Named for the Sun Dance ceremony practiced by Native American Indian tribes, Sundance is the county seat of Crook County and offers a base camp for many unforgettable attractions, nestled between Mount Rushmore in the South Dakotas and Devils Tower in Hulett, Wyoming. Sundance boasts a vibrant and active business community and is a participating partner in the Wyoming Main Street Program, a program whose purpose is to assist Wyoming communities with downtown revitalization efforts. It has a population of 1,201 and is a popular destination for those attending the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. It’s also the home of Crook County Medical Services hospital.
