The International Pathfinder Camporee, a faith-based organization that promotes youth development with outdoor skills, community service, and Bible knowledge, will turn the Gillette Cam-Plex into its home base August 5-11, 2024.

The event was held in Oshkosh, WI, for the past 20 years. The organizers said they are impressed with the opportunities that Gillette and Campbell County offers and announced their decision to move to Gillette earlier this year.

Gillette’s population will literally double during that time and will clearly be the largest event this area has ever hosted, with an estimated 55,000 people coming from 100 countries.

According to Campbell County Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jessica Seders, all area businesses will see an increased demand for good and services as the Camporee ripples out throughout the area. The participants plan several activities ranging from educational tours, to hands-on community service projects. Each of these activities will require extensive advance planning to be effective. Anyone who might be interested in serving on a local planning team in the three-year ramp-up for the event, should contact Seders at 307-686-0040. These advance teams will coordinate community service work, business relationships, or other activities.

Hosting this event will have obvious daily impacts on businesses ranging from daily sales of food, equipment, and supplies, but also for support businesses who provide background support such as repair and maintenance. Seders estimates that the event could have a $25 million economic impact on northeast Wyoming.

While this is an opportunity for local entrepreneurs, there are many requirements they must meet to withstand what promises to be a busy week. The Camporee will take place the same week as the Sturgis (SD) Motorcycle Rally, which brings hundreds of thousands of bikers to the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming.
